Reason 1: If you don’t, someone else will.
Opportunities don’t wait for you. While they are there one day, they could be gone the next. If you want something, you must seize it when it reaches you. Otherwise, it will be gone, and you possibly can’t get it back again. You’ll have to overcome that (which can be difficult). There are so many people out there competing for things in life, such as a job or a spot in school when applying.
For example, suppose you are looking for a job in your field. You find one that is not exactly the perfect fit, but it gets your foot in the door. You might think it’s best to wait for something else. However, if you don’t have any money coming in and you also need more experience, this is your lead! Stop waiting for the perfect fit! You can get in there and get some references and add something to your resume. The connections you make in that position could help you move up within the company or help you move on to something else. You have got to start somewhere to get somewhere. What will happen if you don’t take it? Someone else will, and you’ll be stuck sitting there with heartbreak wondering what it would have been like if you took the chance. Don’t let this be you. Go after your dreams now!
Reason 2: You’ll regret not trying way more than failing!
Regret is a funny thing. In the moment there might be so much pressure in your mind that you are unsure of what decision to make. You might ask yourself, “Which one do I pick?” Or perhaps, “How will I know that this will work out?” I think we all experience regret in some form. It is okay to look back on something for a moment and think about what could have been changed. But use that as a lesson for the next time. Do not keep replaying it, wishing it would change, because guess what? It cannot—the past already happened.
Now the future is still upcoming; you have time to change that. Do you want to move into the future stuck on the “what if?” train? That engine is one where you just keep thinking about how different your life would be if you would have done the things you should have before. Or do you want to move into the future knowing that the reason you are here is because you attempted all the scenarios and got the results of your effort? The second choice is a much easier one to go with.
Failure can be hard as well when you must move through it, but failure is fantastic for letting you gain knowledge, experience, and lessons to help you with your next success. The best players in baseball do not bat a thousand. They also have bad days where they underperform. Most championship teams do not go undefeated in seasons—they go through injuries, mishaps, and losses. It is all a part of the ride.
Failure teaches you to succeed; regrets will haunt you. Start small with your goals. Write them down on a piece of paper. Focus on those, then once achieved you can move on to another set. This will help you boost your confidence for a while. Then over time, you will become confident in your dreams and want to explore new things to try. Whenever you fail, just smile and be happy that you did it, because something good will come of it, and you will feel thankful that you do not have to have the “what if?” scenarios playing in your head for the rest of your life.
Reason 3: You’ll grow into the person who can actually do it.
“How can I even do this?” Lots of people ask this question—sometimes I laugh and think that before a big task. But I know that I can do it because I believe in myself and I feel very positive. I have had lots of times where I applied for a job and did not get it. But I stayed persistent. I went through personal development by obtaining more certificates for my resume and experience, such as volunteering. I knew that eventually I would have enough growth and experience that my chances for jobs in what I wanted to pursue would improve. That is exactly what happened to me, and I am very thankful for the tough times I had because I knew that in the long run it would pay off.
You need to continue working on your skills to achieve your dream. Goals can transform you and build your confidence while improving your discipline. Sure, it might be tough right now, but you must realize that if you stay focused and positive, you really can do anything that you want to. Nobody starts right away with all the knowledge; they must continue learning on their journey to success. When someone graduates from school, they usually don’t become a CEO the next day. They must gain more experience and move their way up. Over time, with their self-growth through knowledge, references, and skills, they can develop into a top leadership position. Nobody starts ready, but everybody starts somewhere. You still have tons of time and chances to go for your dreams! It’s time to improve your best self and do it.
Reason 4: Time’s passing anyway—might as well make it count.
Time is going to go by no matter what you do. Before you know it, next weekend will hit and you will wonder where the day went. As time goes, you reach a new phase and think back to where you were the year before. Sometimes I have been enjoying something and go, “Wow, I can’t even imagine this happening. I remember this time last year when I was wondering where I would be now.” It happens sometimes, and then I laugh knowing that I am still going on my path, and probably the next year I will say the same thing again for something else.
The thing is, though, you must use your time wisely. It is something that you do not get back once it is gone. I’m sure it would be lots of fun to place a call and order a moment to relive it again, but unfortunately, you cannot. You need to set yourself up well for the future; use your time to enjoy yourself. Use your time to read books. Use your time to take courses. Use your time to develop skills to help you succeed down the line. Make the most of it, as down the line your future self will thank you a ton for putting yourself into a much more successful position. Build productive habits and keep striving to achieve what you want. Daily progress occurs when you work hard and give it your all.

Reason 5: When you win, you’ll inspire others to do the same.
You never know whose life you might impact in the future. If you do something special, there is the possibility that someone else then feels inspired to do something too. That could greatly impact your community in a positive way. Success usually inspires others because they want to know that there is a blueprint or someone who has done something they thought impossible.
It may lead you to have a more fulfilling life because of the reward of seeing people happy as their lives improve. It might lead to more friends or better relationships, whether professional or personal. Lead by example and have a positive impact. It could also help you professionally for a job position.
So…
It’s time to go for your goals. Opportunities don’t wait for you. They come and go. But when they come, it’s important to capitalize on some of them. If you don’t, someone else will take it, and you might regret it later. Failing teaches you a ton of lessons as you gain knowledge. But choosing instead to just not try can lead to emptiness and sadness, instead of gaining valuable skills. You need to position yourself well for the future to help you succeed. Time will keep on going, and you can’t get it back. You need to use it wisely so that your future self will thank you for the position you put yourself in. You never know who you will meet and impact. You might inspire someone who, perhaps, will help you in the future. Or you might improve your community and have the joy of seeing people’s lives change for the better. Don’t waste your time. Continue to read books, continue to take courses, continue to volunteer and gain experience. Stay positive and keep going as your dreams are awaiting you. You will do great things in life if you stay disciplined and focused. I wish you the best of luck! You’ve got this. Dreams don’t chase themselves. MOVE! Go out there and do it!
